Buying new Apple technology will now cost significantly more. The company updated prices for several popular devices at once, and some models have gone up in price by more than a thousand dollars.
After a short break, Apple’s online store is back online with new prices. The most significant increase affected Mac computers.
For example, the Mac Studio with the M3 Ultra chip now costs $5,299 instead of the previous $3,999. The version with the M4 Max processor has also gone up in price — from $1,999 to $2,499.
The changes affected other devices as well. The HomePod mini increased in price from $99 to $129, the iPad Air — from $599 to $749, and the iPad Pro — from $999 to $1,199.
Laptops were also raised. The MacBook Air now starts at $1,299, which is $200 more than its previous price. The MacBook Pro has increased in price by $300 and starts at $1,999. The Vision Pro headset has also become more expensive – by $200.
At the same time, the prices of the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods have not yet changed. However, analysts do not rule out that their prices may also increase in the near future.
Apple warned about the upcoming increase back in early June. The company’s CEO, Tim Cook, explained the decision by the rapid rise in the cost of memory chips. According to him, the manufacturer has long covered the additional costs itself, but continuing to do so has become economically unfeasible.
Apple calls the current component shortage one of the most serious in recent years. The company claims that it held back price increases for as long as possible, but further price increases for key components forced it to pass on some of the costs to customers.
