Specifications of the new GAC crossover for Russia have been revealed, which can travel more than 1000 km without refueling

The new GAC S9 for the Russian Federation will be a serial hybrid with a range of up to 1019 km

The new flagship hybrid crossover GAC S9 in the version for the Russian market is beginning to acquire details. Ahead of the official launch of sales of the model in Russia, GAC has revealed details about its technical equipment and key characteristics.

So, if on the outside the GAC S9 is practically no different from the one already presented on the Russian market Compared to the S7 “hybrid,” it’s significantly larger in size. Its length, width, and height are 5,060, 1,950, and 1,760 millimeters, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2,930 millimeters.

Technically, the new flagship is a serial hybrid (REEV), where the car is propelled by two electric motors located on the front and rear axles. In this way, a full-fledged electric all-wheel drive scheme is implemented, where the front and rear electric motors work independently, providing instant redistribution of traction.

Under the hood of the GAC S9 there is a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine, but it is used only as a generator and serves to maintain the battery charge. The combined fuel consumption with a discharged battery is only 7.4 liters per 100 km.

The total range from a fully charged battery and a full gas tank is 1,019 km, and up to 208 km can be traveled on electric power alone (both figures are calculated according to the new European driving cycle NEDC), which makes the car equally convenient for both city and highway.

The GAC S9 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds. The maximum power of its power plant is 340 hp. The transport tax for serial hybrids is calculated based on the maximum 30-minute power of the electric motors, which in the GAC S9 is only 147 hp.

The car uses a NMC (nickel-cobalt-manganese) traction battery manufactured by CATL with a capacity of 44.5 kilowatt-hours. Its fast charging time from 30% to 80% is only 15 minutes.

In addition, the GAC S9 is equipped with an adaptive SDC suspension with variable shock absorber stiffness depending on the driving mode. The driver can choose from several driving modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, and a customizable mode. This allows the car to be adapted to the road surface and the driver’s preferences.

Additional comfort is provided by the intelligent ADAS driver assistance systems. One of its key elements is Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), which maintains a set speed and automatically adjusts it, maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front, right up to a complete stop, and then resumes driving. The complex also includes a system of keeping the car in the lane and a system of automatic parking.

More detailed information about the trim levels, equipment and prices of the new GAC S9 will be announced closer to its official start of sales on the Russian market.

As a reminder, at the end of April in Russia two GAC models became cheaper: the premium minivan M8 and the crossover GS4. The first one happened due to price reduction on two trim levels of 2024-2025 production years, and the second one got a direct discount on “last year’s” versions.
