Lower fuel consumption and longer service life. When will Lada cars get new engines?
AvtoVAZ plans to begin sales of the LADA Vesta and Iskra with upgraded naturally aspirated engines in the fourth quarter of 2026. The RCI News resource learned about this at the international suppliers conference, which took place in Tolyatti several days ago.
According to the plans announced by the company, LADA Iskra will receive new options and a modernized 1.6-liter engine, the power of which has increased from 106 to 120 l. sec., and the torque – from 148 to 154 Nm of torque.
LADA Vesta, in turn, should go on sale in the fourth quarter with two updated engines at once – a 120-horsepower 1.6-liter and a 135-horsepower 1.8-liter, the torque of which has also increased to 154 Nm. A correspondent from AvtoVAZ attended the presentation of both of these engines in July.
According to AvtoVAZ representatives, both units received 37 new and modernized parts, but retained the “plug-less” layout: the pistons are provided with grooves for the full stroke of the valve, which completely eliminates contact between the valve and the piston in the event of an emergency.
For Both engines feature a range of technical improvements: a cylinder block with new oil injectors, a new cylinder head, a new intake module, a new piston group with rings with reduced tangential force, and an original camshaft profile. This has increased the power and torque of the units.
A new right engine mount bracket and a cylinder block with new oil injectors have increased the reliability of these engines. In addition, a new connecting rod and piston group with rings with reduced tangential force has helped to reduce fuel consumption.
