There is almost no confirmed information about when Lithuania will open the border with Belarus (and whether it will open it at all). The officially voiced position of the Lithuanian government: the border is closed until midnight on November 30, and then we’ll see. But when there is no confirmed information, rumors appear. And sometimes rumors are supported by specific facts.
On Monday, as a reminder, Poland opened two more border crossing points on the border with Belarus. That is, three border crossing points are now open for passenger traffic on the border with Poland, and none on the border with Lithuania. Against this background, rumors have started. Opinions have appeared in the Lithuanian press that the border may open earlier than the announced date.
And here’s more food for thought. Some carriers are actively preparing to resume traffic across the Lithuanian border. In particular, bus ticket sales to Lithuania have begun.
— Tickets are now available for Minsk-Vilnius buses passing through the Benyakoni border crossing point, departing at 3:00 and 5:00. The first departure is on November 22. The ticket price is 185 rubles. In the opposite direction, these buses depart at 11:35 and 15:10, they told us at the Atlas service. — In addition, sales are now open for the Minsk-Vilnius-Kaunas route via the Kamenny Log border crossing point, which departs from November 23. Departure from Minsk at 04:00.
The State Border Committee reported today that a working meeting of the deputy chief border commissioners of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Lithuania was held at the Lithuanian checkpoint “Lavorishkes”.
— During the border representative meeting, the parties discussed the developing situation on the Belarusian-Lithuanian section of the border and a number of current issues related to smuggling and illegal migration, — noted in the SBC. — The Belarusian side drew attention to the fact that the Republic of Lithuania unilaterally ceased to participate in a number of international agreements on cooperation in the border sphere. Nevertheless, the State Border Committee of the Republic of Belarus confirmed its readiness to work together should a full and constructive dialogue resume. The border should be a place where civilized cooperation takes place in the spirit of partnership and equality.
Moreover, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė spoke about the situation at the border today.
— The National Security Commission (NSC) recommended that the possibility of opening the borders, or more precisely, the two checkpoints that we have closed, be considered at tomorrow’s government meeting. This issue will be included on the agenda of tomorrow’s government meeting, Delfi.lt quotes the Prime Minister as saying. — If the situation doesn’t change and tomorrow we see the same results as today, then I personally support (the proposal to open the border), but we will wait for the government’s decision, since, ultimately, it is a collegial body.
