The world premiere of the new generation Toyota Hilux took place in Thailand. The ninth version of the legendary pickup marks the beginning of a new era for the model: now, for the first time, Hilux will be available in three variants: with a diesel engine, a fully electric powertrain (BEV), and a hydrogen system (FCEV).
The electric Hilux has a 59.2 kWh battery and two eAxle motors, the total power of which reaches 144 kW (196 hp). The driving range exceeds 300 km. The battery is installed under the frame, which has a positive effect on the center of gravity and off-road performance. All-wheel drive, as before, ensures the legendary cross-country ability of the model.
Toyota plans to begin sales in Asia as early as 2026. By 2028, a hydrogen version will join the lineup, which will appear in Europe and Oceania. At the same time, the diesel Hilux, adapted to local conditions, will remain in Japan.
According to Toyota Brand Director Simon Humphreys, the new Hilux reflects the “multi-pathway” strategy – a multi-vector approach to electrification that takes into account the specific features of different regions. The company is focusing on versatility, offering options suitable for farmers, builders, and city drivers.
Hilux remains true to its principles – reliable, practical, and now even more versatile. Toyota is demonstrating that the path to carbon neutrality lies through a variety of technologies, not a single solution.
