Germany took first place in Europe in car sales in April 2026, overtaking the UK, France and Italy. This was reported by Autostat with reference to data from GlobalData.


📊 Who and how many cars sold in Europe

According to the results of April, the German market showed confident growth:

  • 🇩🇪 Germany – 249,163 cars (+2.7% compared to April 2025)
  • 🇮🇹 Italy – 155 210 cars
  • 🇬🇧 Great Britain — 149,247 cars
  • 🇫🇷 France — 138,339 cars

Germany has significantly outpaced its closest competitors, strengthening its status as Europe’s largest car market.


🇷🇺 Russia has risen to fifth place

If the Russian market is taken into account in the pan-European ranking, it occupies fifth place:

  • 🇷🇺 Russia — 117,541 new passenger cars

For comparison, in February and March the country was in sixth position, but in April it was able to improve the result and overtake Spain.

  • 🇪🇸 Spain — 106,862 cars

🚗 Imports to Russia are growing

An increase in the supply of new cars to the Russian Federation is noted separately.

From January to April 2026, the following were imported into the country:

  • 112.3 thousand new passenger cars (up to 3 years)
  • Growth amounted to +6% compared to the same period in 2025
  • Almost 70% of imports came from China
