AvtoVAZ is preparing to release completely new Lada models. The dates when to expect them are known
“AvtoVAZ” has postponed the implementation of projects to produce a minivan on the modernized LADA Vesta (RGB) platform, a station wagon based on the Granta (RGD) and the LADA Niva Travel (RGM) with an extended rear overhang until 2029. The insider Telegram channel “Russian Automobile” reported this, citing its sources.
The reasons for the postponement were not specified. Meanwhile, according to the channel’s sources, the project to localize the assembly of the third-generation Renault Logan and Sandero (apparently under a different brand) has also been postponed for a couple of years, to 2028. These cars are planned to be produced at the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg, where XCite crossovers were previously assembled and where budget LADA Iskra family cars are now produced.
“So far, all projects are in progress; nothing has been closed,” emphasized Russkiy Avtomobil.
As for the “postponed” new products, AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov previously spoke about plans to present a fully finished LADA minivan at the next St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in 2026. Its serial production at the Tolyatti plant was planned to begin in 2027.
The dimensions of the future crossover van are still classified. As AvtoVAZ Vice President for External Relations and Shareholder Relations Sergey Gromak previously stated, the vehicle will have both a five- and seven-seat configuration. The total investment in the project for its development will amount to 21 billion rubles.
The minimum cost of such a station wagon, according to the blogger, due to simple equipment (should be comparable to a sedan in the Standard Plus configuration) can be approximately 1 million rubles. Thus, it will become the ideological successor of the classic VAZ-2104, which was discontinued in 2012.
Earlier in November, AvtoNovosti Dnya reported that AvtoVAZ had begun implementing an intensive program of road tests of the new flagship crossover of its own design, the LADA Azimut, the production of which will start in 2026. Currently, a track on the plant’s territory is being used for them, and the main set of validations will be carried out at the VAZ test site named after A. Akoeva in the village of Sosnovka.
