The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Anton Alikhanov tested the hybrid version of the new LADA Azimut crossover. He noted the car’s “brisk” acceleration from a standstill and a spacious interior, which, from his point of view, makes the car suitable for a large family and long trips.

A short video from the minister’s test drive was published by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The ministry also specified that the hybrid Azimut is equipped with an internal combustion engine and two electric motors – on the front and rear axles.

The total capacity of the power plant, according to official data, is about 500 horsepower. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, and the total range is declared at more than 1000 km.

As Maxim Kadakov, editor-in-chief of the magazine “Behind the Wheel”, noted, externally the hybrid Azimut is no different from the gasoline one – it can be recognized only by the “PHEV 4WD” badge on the trunk lid. AvtoVAZ began registering the corresponding trademark back in the spring.

However, according to him, there are differences in the digital instrument panel, where a new animation from the company “Itelma” has appeared, showing the distribution of energy. The car itself is a series-parallel plug-in hybrid, in which the internal combustion engine drives the front wheels, and the electric motors drive both the front and rear.

Last Friday, the hybrid LADA Azimut was also supposed to be presented to the board of directors of AvtoVAZ. According to the company’s president, Maxim Sokolov, it is too early to talk about launching serial production of this version, but a “roadmap” for the further development of this project already exists.

Now the hybrid LADA Azimut will have to undergo a full range of road, climate and industrial tests. After that, AvtoVAZ will evaluate the balance between the cost of production and the possible market price of such a car.

As a reminder, on September 25, the ceremony of launching serial production of the gasoline LADA Azimut was held at the plant in Tolyatti. The long-awaited new product went into production with two naturally aspirated engines of 1.6 and 1.8 liters, developing 120 and 132 hp, respectively. Transmissions – six-speed manual and CVT. In the future, the crossover will also receive a new turbocharged engine with a capacity of 150 hp. s., aggregated with a classic automatic transmission.
