In July, a married couple was driving home. The woman was driving the car, and her drunk husband was riding in the front passenger seat. A 39-year-old driver was driving in the traffic in front of them. At a certain point, he began to notice that the glare of the headlights of the car driving behind him was reflected from the side mirrors and the rearview mirror. Moreover, the high beams in that car were on, which began to blind him.
The man tried various ways to ask the driver to turn off the high beams, but this was unsuccessful. There was no conflict between the drivers.
According to the case materials, while waiting for the traffic light to turn green, the driver decided to approach the couple’s car to ask them to turn off the high beams. As he approached, the drunk man took pepper spray from the glove compartment. Then he leaned over the driver’s seat and sprayed the mixture from the can into the victim’s face, causing him to tear, cough, and choke, and later, a first-degree chemical burn of the skin of the eyelids, cornea, and conjunctiva of the eyeballs.
After this, the female driver closed the window and left the scene.
The accused did not admit guilt in committing the crime. He stated that he was afraid for his wife and the car.
The man’s actions are classified under Part 3 of Art. 339 of the Criminal Code, reports the Minsk Prosecutor’s Office.
The prosecutor left the previously chosen preventive measure in the form of personal surety for the accused unchanged.
