Autonews.ru found out which cars in 2025 most often became “total” and in which regions the majority of such accidents occurred.
The largest insurance companies have compiled an anti-rating of cars that in 2025 most often got into “total accidents” – accidents after which repairing the car is economically impractical.
An increase in the number of “total” accidents
Zetta Insurance reported an increase in the number of “total” accidents in 2025 by 6% compared to 2024. Similar data was also presented by Daria Shvedova, Director of the Ingosstrakh Business Analytics Center: the share of such accidents in the total volume of losses was 2.5% versus 2.3% last year.
At the same time, Sergey Demidov, Vice President of Renaissance Insurance, noted that over the past two years, the dynamics of “total” accidents has shown a slight decrease.
Cars most often involved in “total” accidents
According to Soglasie Insurance Company, in 2025, the cars most often involved in “total” accidents were Chinese brands Voyah and Zeekr, as well as Suzuki, Hongqi, Porsche, Audi, Subaru, Honda, Renault and BMW.
At Absolut Insurance, Lada cars are in the lead, accounting for 9% of total claims, primarily among cars manufactured in 2024. Among foreign brands:
- Kia — 7%
- Hyundai — 6.7%
- Toyota — 5.4%
- Volkswagen — 5.3%
A company representative clarified that most accidents occur in cars produced in 2021 and older, while 2022 cars are also included in the statistics, and new models are less common.
Renaissance Insurance analysts have compiled their own list of the most “dangerous” models of 2025:
Zetta Insurance notes that the most frequently totaled cars were those of the Chinese brand Chery, followed by Geely and Volkswagen follow.
The company “MAX” did not disclose specific models, but the director of the claims department, Ivan Popov, noted an increase in “total” losses among Chinese cars. The reason is the relatively low cost of cars and the high price of spare parts: sometimes replacing a headlight can cost 200-300 thousand rubles, which makes repairing the car economically impractical even in the case of an average frontal impact.
Daria Shvedova (Ingosstrakh) added that the cars most often involved in “total” accidents were:
- Nissan – 13%
- Toyota – 11.9%
- VAZ – 6.1%
- Honda – 4.8%
- Mazda – 4.4%
The most “dangerous” regions
According to Soglasie, the top 10 regions by the number of “total” accidents are: Ulyanovsk, Tomsk and Omsk regions, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Astrakhan region, St. Petersburg, Kaliningrad, Oryol, Arkhangelsk and Novosibirsk regions.
Statistics from Absolut Insurance show that most often “total” accidents were recorded in Moscow (17.3%), Moscow region (9.4%), St. Petersburg (6%), Krasnodar region (5.7%) and Rostov region (4.7%).
According to Zetta Insurance, the greatest number of accidents occurred with clients from Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and St. Petersburg.
Renaissance Insurance “Black List” Perm, Kazan and Novosibirsk topped the list.
According to Ingosstrakh, the leader in the number of totals was the Chelyabinsk region (19%), followed by Moscow (15.5%), Primorsky Krai (7.8%) and Novosibirsk region (3.7%).
