Readers Evgeny and Mikhail contacted us with a problem that, according to them, bothers not only them but also their neighbors. We will talk about houses No. 33 and No. 35 on Komsomolskaya Street in Minsk, or more precisely, about the courtyard parking near these houses. The fact is that the nearest parking spaces in the city center are paid. And those who want to save money or simply have not found a better option, go to the “free” courtyards, thereby creating inconvenience for local residents.
“Residents cannot park their cars in the courtyard of their house”
Evgeny said that the parking issue in the courtyard of his house is acute. And during working hours, when you’d think there should be plenty of space, as everyone is going about their business, it’s impossible to walk through the courtyard, let alone drive through.
— The residents of our courtyard and I have a major problem: our courtyard is the only one in central Minsk without a barrier. As a result, residents who come home for lunch can’t even park their cars in the courtyard of their building, — a reader shared. — From 8:00 to 18:00 there is no room at all in the yard, not even for an ambulance to pass, and in the evenings and on weekends, you can dance at will.
According to Evgeny, residents contacted the Minsk City Executive Committee regarding the installation of a barrier.
— This territory belongs to the city, and our yard is adjacent to the territory of a state service, and because of this we cannot install a barrier, — a reader told an Onlíner correspondent.
“You can’t go to the playground with a child”
We also managed to talk to a reader Mikhail, who lives in the same place.
— Of course, we talked to people who park their cars in the yard, and they did it more than once. They, as a rule, react in two ways: either they don’t pay attention at all, or they say: “What can I do? I have nowhere else to park.” Some people might fall for the idea that you will call the traffic police, while others don’t care, — Mikhail commented on the situation. — Sometimes you can’t go to the playground with your child because the perimeter is absolutely crowded. And it’s mostly the same cars that park there. These are people who work somewhere nearby. They come, park their cars for the day and leave.
— Taking out the trash during the day is sometimes difficult. You simply can’t go to the trash bins because there are cars all around. You won’t put a garbage bag on your car, — Mikhail noted.
“It’s become simply terrible in our courtyard”
After the publication of the material, several more readers contacted us and reported on the parking situations that were happening in their courtyards.
As Anastasia says, the situation on Lenin Street, building No. 15, is more or less the same as on Komsomolskaya: a lot of cars on weekdays during working hours and, as a result, difficulties with parking.
— In the morning I take my child to kindergarten, but back, if I come home at 8:30 AM, I can’t park my car anymore. I’m either forced to park illegally—meaning block someone’s path and be in a hurry to run out and push them away—or I have to park in the paid lot on Karl Marx Street if there’s a free space there, —a reader shares. — In fact, there are about ten cars in our courtyard. We would have had enough space for everyone if it weren’t for our guests.
According to Anastasia, the residents also tried to install a barrier and even installed it, but dismantled it two weeks later.
— When the parking rates increased, it became simply terrible in our yard – it’s impossible to drive in at all.
A reader said that they tried to communicate with the drivers to somehow resolve the situation in the yard.
— They say: “Where are we supposed to park? Well, we also need to get to work. If it’s in your way, I’ll move it away – you go ahead and I’ll take your spot.” They come here sharp from 7:30 to 17:00. And at this time, it’s simply impossible to drive through the yard, and by 5:05 pm, everyone is already leaving. On weekends, everything is fine, wonderful: there can be 3-4 cars parked in the entire yard.
According to Anastasia, drivers park their vehicles so tightly that it’s impossible to get close or throw out trash.
— You can’t even walk up to your entrance because sometimes there’s a gap of 20-30 centimeters between the cars. They block the passage and sometimes drive right up to the entrance door. If you have a child in your arms, you have to squeeze between the cars to get into your home. I won’t even mention the playground, because it’s unsafe to even be there. The traffic is constant.
“The courtyard is turning into a public parking lot”
Another reader told us about the problems of the capital’s courtyard, which is located on Independence Avenue.
— On weekdays, the courtyard turns into a public parking lot. At the entrance from Kiseleva Street there is a sign “No entry”, but, as throughout the entire center, drivers mostly ignore it. There is no use talking here. The situation is complicated by the fact that most of the apartments in the building are either rented out or occupied by pensioners who wouldn’t want to get involved in all this, says a reader. —There are most cars on weekdays. On weekends the situation is a little better, but sometimes the courtyard gets crowded. Although not as much as on weekdays. After 8:00 pm the yard gradually becomes unloaded and you can park your car.
“It’s absolutely impossible to park a car”
The situation with parking in the yard is a sore subject for many. Another reader of ours told us about the situation with this issue in the area near house No. 1 on Moskovskaya Street.
— Nobody wants to pay, everyone drives into our yard. It’s impossible to park a car at all. And there’s another organization, we don’t know what they do, but they’ve carved out a piece of the territory for themselves. Even though they have their own parking lot with a gate. They’ve probably fenced off four spaces and put up some concrete blocks, —the reader shared.
According to the reader, the residents of the buildings were very outraged, have filed a collective complaint and are planning to go to a meeting with the head of the Oktyabrsky District administration.
—That is, there is no designated territory at all. “Nobody can answer the question: ‘So where is the parking for residents?'” — the girl says. — The situation is getting worse. When they built the traffic interchange, they removed the parking spaces that were on the front side of the building, near the bridge to Independence Avenue. By the way, they never returned them. Meanwhile, there is a parking lot opposite — on Tolstoy Street, building No. 4. And it is always empty. A maximum of 6-8 cars are parked there, which is even a lot, and usually 2-3 cars. But the residents are not allowed to use it. We even agreed to paid terms, but no.
As a reader says, there was another situation when some organization started placing spheres in a place where they were not supposed to be.
— As a result, all the residents got outraged again, started calling the traffic police, calling the administration. Then they had to unscrew these spheres, – the girl clarified.
Added. “There’s no parking in the courtyards either during the day or in the evening”
A difficult parking situation is observed in the courtyards of Krasnozvezdnaya Street, buildings No. 33 and No. 35, and Platonova Street, building No. 20. Our reader told us about the situation in this area.
— Paid parking has been introduced on Krasnozvezdnaya and Berestyanskaya Streets. The situation is especially acute near the bank. The courtyards are simply overflowing with cars of the bank’s clients and neighboring organizations, — the reader shared. — There’s no parking during the day. In the evening, some people parked their cars near the bank, and this partially relieved the courtyards, but now, since the tariff came into effect at 8:00 in the morning, no one parks near the bank, and the situation in the courtyards is even worse in the evening. Now it is impossible to park in the courtyards either during the day or in the evening.
Because of paid parking in the center, the courtyards have become…

About parking in the center of Minsk
Let us remind you that new tariffs for parking vehicles are in effect in Minsk since November 10. The capital is visually divided into three zones, they differ in parking costs. The most expensive zone in the center is the Upper Town, Trinity Suburb, Zamkovaya Street.
The first 15 minutes in the allocated parking lots are free. Komsomolskaya Street and its courtyards are included in the second zone (yellow on the map), which contains more than 100 car parks. Parking there for most vehicles from 08:00 to 20:00 costs 2 rubles per hour.
If the driver does not pay for parking, he will have to pay a “fine” (experts emphasize that this is not exactly a fine, but an “additional fee for non-payment”) – 1 basic unit (currently – 42 rubles, and from January 1, 2026, the basic unit will be 45 rubles).
At the same time, in accordance with the procedure and rules for the operation of car parks in Minsk, the use of subscriptions when paying for parking is not provided.
