The Chinese auto industry has been a part of our lives for many years, so we need to be able to understand it and, accordingly, choose cars that are modern, interesting and unusual in design. In addition, many Chinese brands closely cooperate with global automobile manufacturers.
Such brands include JAC, which cooperates with the German concern Volkswagen. Initially, this brand made a name for itself in the production of trucks, but has already managed to establish itself in the passenger car segment. The Yuzhny Avtomobil team, together with its friendly resource CarzClub.ru, took the JAC JS6 crossover for a test drive and drove it for 1,000 kilometers.
Appearance
The Chinese have long lured venerable designers to design cars. The JAC JS6 crossover was no exception. The car’s appearance was worked on by Italian Daniele Gaglione, a former Alfa Romeo designer. It was he who developed the image of the Alfa Romeo 8C sports car, so the design of the JAC JS6 turned out to be not only modern, but also stylish. The sloping roof, the semicircular lines of the hood – the futuristic silhouette of the car is maintained in a single style.
The impressive appearance of the crossover is given by the stampings on the sides, large wheel arches finished with protective plastic, inserts on the bumper and 18-tires on alloy wheels. The stylish two-tiered head optics also attract attention. The rear lights are a single LED strip. The dimensions of the JS6 are not at all modest – 4605 × 1890 × 1700 mm with a wheelbase of 2720 mm and a ground clearance of 160 mm.
Interior
In the interior of many Chinese crossovers of recent years, one can observe an almost complete absence of buttons and other mechanical controls. All control of the car’s functions is carried out through a huge horizontal tablet. Of course, it would be better if some of the functions were controlled by physical buttons, since it is very difficult to find what you need while driving. If you get distracted, it is also unsafe.
The decision to place the climate control panel on a separate block located right behind the gear selector looks interesting.
The gaze here, in a good sense, clings to literally every element of the interior trim. There are practically no cheap materials. I would like to separately note the comfortable and ergonomic bucket seats for the driver and front passenger. I was pleased with the presence of a shelf with wireless charging for a mobile phone in the JAC JS6. And this is not counting the USB port and the usual 12V socket. The four-spoke steering wheel is adjustable in height and reach, it has buttons to control some functions.
The front seats are electrically adjustable, and the driver’s seat also has a memory for settings for three people. , the JS6 is spacious inside. The panoramic roof with a sunroof adds space, but overall there is enough space. Passengers in the second row will not be cramped even with the driver’s seat extended. The middle rear seat transforms into an armrest with cup holders. The trunk volume is 490 liters, but it can be increased by folding the rear row.
Equipment
Under the hood of the JAC JS6 is a 1.5 liter turbocharged gasoline engine, the only one for our market, developing a power of 174 hp and capable of producing a torque of 280 Nm in the range of 1500-3500 rpm. The transmission is a 6-speed robotic gearbox with two wet clutches. Despite the exclusively front-wheel drive, all suspensions of the JAC JS6 are independent. The brake mechanisms are disc at the front and rear. There is no aluminum in the chassis, only steel. Clear reactions to the accelerator pedal bring a lot of pleasure. The difference between the comfortable and economical modes is not so obvious. I would venture to assume that these modes will show themselves better on a long journey. For now, the fuel consumption meter shows 7.9 l / 100 km, which is very good for a crossover in the C segment. But what is worthy of praise in the JAC JS6 is its excellent noise insulation. At the wheel, because of it, you sometimes lose the sense of speed.
Prices
On the Russian market, the JAC JS6 crossover is available in three trim levels: Comfort, Luxury and Flagship, and in five different colors. Prices for the car start at 2.2 million rubles. At the same time, dealers offer additional large discounts if you purchase a car on credit or hand over your car for trade-in. The car warranty is 5 years or 150,000 kilometers.
