Dongfeng tests a competitor to the Russian Hyundai Creta

The Chinese company Dongfeng has begun road testing the updated compact crossover AX4 – a potential competitor to the Russian Hyundai Creta. The first spy photos of the new model were published by local media a few hours ago.

According to preliminary data, the new Dongfeng AX4 may arrive on the Russian market as a competitor to the Hyundai Creta as early as next year.

Judging by the photos, after the restyling, the crossover will receive minimal changes to the exterior — all the most interesting things will be inside. The interior will noticeably improve in ergonomics and quality of materials, the central console and climate control unit will be updated.

Under the hood, the SUV will be equipped with the latest 1.0-liter 125-horsepower turbo engine, working in tandem with a 6-speed manual transmission and a «robot». Dongfeng will again not offer all-wheel drive in any of the trim levels.

Recall that the pre-restyling Dongfeng AX4 went on sale in November 2017. The first version of the compact crossover with dimensions of 4195x1780x1622 and a wheelbase of 2580 mm is still sold in China with a 1.6-liter 124-horsepower naturally aspirated engine and a 1.4-liter 140-horsepower turbo engine. The same 6-speed manual and robotic transmissions are available.
