At the 15th International Industrial Exhibition “Innoprom” in Yekaterinburg, KAMAZ demonstrated a gas-powered modification of its flagship truck KAMAZ-54901.
This version has already been launched into serial production – production started in September 2024. In the first months of 2025, 20 vehicles were assembled, and by the end of the year, the company plans to produce 700 units. The new product complies with European standards for the transportation of dangerous goods (ADR), retaining the basic wheel arrangement, but receiving a new power unit under the cab.
It is based on the same in-line six-cylinder engine P6, used in the K5 generation vehicles. However, instead of diesel fuel, it runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is stored in two cryogenic tanks with a total volume of 1,060 liters.
This solution allows for a significant reduction in fuel costs. In addition, the driving range on one tank reaches 1,600 km – a serious advantage from a business point of view. Is this enough to push out competitors like Sitrak? Time will tell.
