A rare 1989 Mitsuoka Bubu Classic SSK has been put up for sale in Moscow. This car is a replica of the famous Mercedes SSK, hand-made on the basis of a Volkswagen Beetle. The car’s mileage is only 8,000 km, and its value is estimated at 2.1 million rubles. The car was discovered by journalists from 110km.ru.
A snow-white convertible with purple wheel arches and sills is a striking example of Japanese automotive kitsch. Mitsuoka Motors has specialized in creating vintage models with modern “stuffing” for almost 40 years, and the Bubu Classic SSK has become one of its most memorable works. In total, only 200 of these cars were produced in 1987-1988, each of which was assembled by hand. The design of the car is inspired by racing cars of the Art Deco era: a long hood, round headlights, an abundance of chrome details, a folding roof and a retro radiator grille make the car a real art object on wheels.
The interior creates an atmosphere of a true gentleman’s garage: black leather seats, a minimalist dashboard, wooden inserts and attention to detail. Under the hood is a 1.6-liter Volkswagen gasoline engine with a capacity of 70 hp, working with a 4-speed manual transmission. Rear-wheel drive, independent spring suspension, disc brakes in front, drum brakes in the rear. With a weight of only 740 kg, the car remains light and maneuverable, although first of all it is intended for a collection, and not for active driving. According to the current owner, in 36 years, the Mitsuoka has traveled only 8 thousand kilometers and was used only twice.
Today, such a Mitsuoka is not just a rare car, but a real trophy for connoisseurs of car design. The combination of vintage style, Japanese quality and European roots makes it unique among thousands of serial cars. Given the growing interest in unusual and collectible cars in Russia, this example may quickly find its buyer – especially due to its excellent condition and low mileage.
