The Automobile Association “BAA” published data on sales of new passenger cars in January 2026 and compared some figures with data for the same period last year, and also noted the dynamics for the entire year.

It is worth emphasizing that since January 1, 2026, BAA has been publishing information on car sales based on analytical reports of BAA-Consult UP based on the results of processing data from electronic vehicle passports, from the date of manufacture of which no more than 24 months have passed to the date of issue of the EPTS (such cars are considered new).

The market assessment is based on the results of sales by legal entities, including BAA members and the top 15 car brands. In January 2026, sales of fifteen leading brands amounted to 3,508 new passenger cars (97.1% of total sales by legal entities).

The Association notes a 40% decrease in sales of new passenger cars in the country compared to January 2025. “A drop in sales was recorded for all brands, with the exception of the total sales of Belgee and Geely brands by the domestic manufacturer SZAO BelDzhi, whose market share in January amounted to 52.8% of total sales. “Year-on-year, the overall market share of local passenger car manufacturers increased from 27% to 58%,” the BAA press release states.

The most significant decline in sales was in the segment of cars imported from the Eurasian Economic Union states (and in fact, from the Russian Federation): a 4-fold decrease was noted by January 2025. The share of cars imported from Russia accounted for 15% against 38% a year earlier, while sales of the Lada brand decreased by 3.6 times by January 2025, and sales of Chinese-brand passenger cars produced in the Russian Federation have effectively ceased on the Belarusian market, the BAA analysis notes.

The share of new passenger cars imported from outside the Eurasian Economic Union decreased from 35% to 27% over the year. At the same time, eleven brands imported from outside the EAEU maintained their positions in the top 15 sales in January 2026.

The Association notes that in January of this year, a high share of new passenger cars sales by individuals remains. The ratio of new passenger car sales by legal entities and individuals in January was 5:3. A year earlier, this figure exceeded 10:1. At the same time, imports of new passenger cars by individuals are growing and in January 2026 reached a share of 56% of total imports to the country.

In 2025, the new passenger car market in Belarus amounted to 74.8 thousand units. The top 15 brands were headed by the Belgee brand: 22.83 thousand cars, which is 30.5% of the market. In second place is Lada (10.44 thousand cars and 14% of the market), and Geely rounds out the top three with 9.03 thousand cars and 12.1%. The total market amounted to 158.7 thousand cars, which represents a 14% increase compared to the previous year. Of this, 98.5 thousand cars (62%) were imported by individuals, 31.4 thousand cars (19.8%) by legal entities, and another 28.8 thousand units (18.2%) came from the BelGee plant.
