In September, in the Lyakhovichsky district, a school bus driver, passing a railroad crossing, ignored the light and sound signals, as well as the high-volume horns sounded by the driver of a freight train. He drove onto the crossing without stopping in front of an approaching train. There were 14 children on the bus.
A tragedy on the railway did not happen only thanks to the professional actions of the train driver, who applied emergency braking. This made it possible to reduce the speed of the train, gain literally a few seconds and avoid a collision with the bus.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, gross violations of the law were established in the carrier’s operations:
- Failure to conduct pre-trip inspections of the technical condition of school buses before releasing them on the route.
- Failure to conduct pre-trip medical examinations of drivers.
- Failure to comply with the requirements for civil liability insurance of vehicle owners and carriers to passengers.
A submission was made to the Lyakhovichi District Executive Committee requiring the elimination and prevention of violations in the field of transport safety, especially when organizing the transportation of children on school buses.
