We’ve been waiting for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI for several years now, and there are about six months left until its release. Unfortunately for PC gamers, the game will first be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, which is causing some disappointment among some fans.
But what about Nintendo Switch 2? Judging by the latest ports of third-party projects, a GTA VI release on the hybrid console is quite possible. Moreover, there is a chance that Switch 2 owners won’t have to wait as long for the release as PC owners.
Is GTA VI coming to Switch 2 possible?
According to Kiwi Talkz on the social network X, the game may be released on Switch 2 as early as this year. Theoretically, the release could take place simultaneously with the PS5 and Xbox versions — on November 19, that is, before the release of the PC version. However, it cannot be ruled out that the port for the hybrid console will be released with a slight delay.
At the moment Rockstar Games has not made any official statements, but the announcement could probably take place in the summer, along with the start of the marketing campaign. It’s important to understand that the source of this information is not official, so the accuracy of this data is questionable.
Skepticism among gamers
Players are cautious about the possibility of GTA VI coming to Switch 2. Some believe the developers may have tested the game on the console but ultimately decided not to release the version. As an example, they cite Gears of War 3, which was tested on PS3 in 2011, but was never released on the platform.
It is more realistic to expect that ports of previous Rockstar games – GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 – will be released on Switch 2 first, and only after that – GTA VI.
Technical capabilities and limitations
In terms of performance, Switch 2 should handle GTA VI without any problems: the console surpasses the Xbox Series S in terms of characteristics, which makes the project technically feasible. However, Rockstar may simply not have the time to optimize another version to meet the release deadline.
Economic Logic
Releasing on Switch 2 also makes sense from a business perspective. Xbox Series sales remain relatively low, so relying solely on the PS5 audience is risky. The appearance of GTA VI on Nintendo’s hybrid console will attract an additional audience and increase revenue, especially given the popularity of the franchise among Switch owners.
