If the German automaker BMW wants to return to the Russian market, it will have to share its technologies, Denis Pak, president of Avtotor Holding, said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru.
“The possibility of foreign manufacturers returning to the Russian market will be considered in a comprehensive manner, taking into account the benefits for the national economy, the specific technologies and competencies they can bring, as well as the extent to which this corresponds to the current strategy for the development of the automotive industry and the localization of production,” Pak noted.
He emphasized that Avtotor’s position on the possible return of BMW or other foreign brands is based on the tasks set by the president and the government of Russia.
Until 2022, BMW cars were assembled at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad, where a new enterprise was also being built to produce Bavarian models concern. BMW assembly at Avtotor began in 1999, and the first Russian models were the BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series in E39 and E38 bodies.
