The accident occurred on July 12, 2024, in the Brest district. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the 52-year-old driver of the motor grader was pulling out of a secondary road and failed to yield to a Mercedes minibus.
The 29-year-old driver of the Mercedes Sprinter was traveling with his wife and six children under the age of eight, with the youngest child not yet one year old. As a result of the accident, three children, as well as the wife of the minibus driver, received serious injuries.
According to the case materials, the motor grader, which belonged to an enterprise operating and maintaining highways, was used with a technically faulty steering wheel and brakes. Moreover, the placement of signs at the intersection did not comply with the location and requirements of STB.
— These violations were not causally related to the consequences that occurred, — noted in the Prosecutor General’s Office.
It is noted that the investigator sent a submission to the Ministry of Transport and Communications with the following demands:
- to exclude the use of transport of enterprises with technical faults, in the presence of which their participation in road traffic is prohibited;
- to ensure the placement of road signs in accordance with technical regulatory legal acts.
The criminal case has been sent to court. The accused has been placed under a restraining order not to leave the area and to behave properly.
