When journalists remarked that old German cars like the Audi 80 could have a 10-year warranty, a representative of the importer gave a rather frank answer.
— In the past, I worked for a long time (at a dealer) VAG-group as a warranty engineer and encountered this marketing ploy. In fact, for the factory to confirm the warranty against perforation corrosion within 10 years, a lot of care must be taken by the car owner. All issues related to damage to the paintwork must be eliminated to prevent perforation corrosion . And in my experience as a warranty engineer, there has not been a single case of confirmed perforation corrosion [specifically as a factory defect. — Onliner note]. We have not encountered this.
