New compact crossovers Volkswagen Tharu XR have begun to actively arrive in Russia via parallel imports, costing only about 1 million rubles on the Chinese market. In Russia, they are sold at a higher price, but prices remain relatively affordable – starting at 1,550,000 rubles according to some online classifications.
For comparison, a similar compact crossover Tenet T4, produced at the former Volkswagen plant in Kaluga, costs significantly more – from 2,039,000 rubles. The price for the updated 2026 model year LADA Vesta is also higher – at least 1,581,000 rubles.
In Vladivostok, a new Volkswagen Tharu XR can be delivered “turnkey” for 1,550,000 rubles. This price includes registration of the SBCTS and EPTS. For this money, the buyer gets the Sharp Enjoy version with a fabric interior, a multi-function steering wheel with a plastic rim, air conditioning, a digital instrument panel, a media system with a touch screen, electric mirrors, electric windows on all doors, an electronic parking brake and alloy wheels.
For 1,700,000 rubles the car is available in the same configuration, but with a panoramic roof and an electronically controlled sunroof, and the version with a leather steering wheel, leather seat upholstery and dual-zone climate control is priced at at least 1,800,000 rubles. In other regions, prices are higher: in Novosibirsk, the same crossover costs from 1,850,000 rubles , and in Tyumen and St. Petersburg – from 1,885,000 rubles .
In a number of Russian cities, prices for the Volkswagen Tharu XR can exceed 2 million rubles:
- Kemerovo – 1,890,000 rubles
- Omsk – 1,970,000 rubles
- Moscow, Simferopol, Perm – 1,990,000 rubles
- Kazan — 2,050,000 rubles
- Novosibirsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Ufa — 2,100,000 rubles
The Volkswagen Tharu XR model was presented in 2024 by the joint venture SAIC Volkswagen . It is positioned as a more affordable and youthful version of the regular Tharu, occupying a niche between it and the younger Volkswagen T-Cross . The Tharu XR’s design is similar to the Volkswagen Taigun and Škoda Kushaq models, as it is built on the MQB A0 platform. The vehicle’s dimensions are: length – 4,335 mm, width – 1,762 mm, height – 1,605 mm.
Powertrain options depend on trim level. The basic versions are equipped with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with 110 hp and a six-speed automatic, while more expensive versions get a 1.5-liter turbo engine with 160 hp , coupled with a seven-speed robotic gearbox.
At the same time, pre-sales of the first electric crossover Volkswagen , developed jointly with the local manufacturer Xpeng — the ID.UNYX 08 model — started in China. The official launch on the Chinese market is expected in the first half of 2026.
In Russia, the electric crossover is already available for order in a number of cities, including St. Petersburg, Tver, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don. The price depends on the region:
- Naberezhnye Chelny — 2 350 000 rubles
- Magnitogorsk — 2 370 000 rubles
- Samara — 2 450 000 rubles
- Rostov-on-Don — 2 800 000 rubles
