The Tank brand is preparing to launch the first plug-in hybrid in the Tank 500 line — the Hi-Charge version — on the Russian market. It combines the power of a classic frame SUV, innovative hybrid technology and a premium level of equipment, the manufacturer’s press service told Avtonovosti Dnya.

The new Hi-Charge version will be the fifth trim level in the range of the “five hundredth” Tank. It will go on sale in early September at a price of 7,299,000 rubles (only the Urban and Adventure versions are cheaper now) and will be available both at the brand’s dealers and online on its official website.
The power plant of the new Tank 500 Hi-Charge combines a 2.0-liter 231-horsepower gasoline engine and a 163-horsepower electric motor, the total 30-minute power of which is 299 hp, and the peak reaches 394 hp and 750 Nm of torque. Acceleration from zero to “hundreds” with such a combination takes 6.9 seconds, and the average fuel consumption in the combined cycle (NEDC) is 8.4 liters per 100 kilometers.
“The Tank 500 Hi-Charge package and its hybrid powertrain are covered by 8 years of service support, which includes a 3-year warranty plus 5 years of service support or upon reaching a total mileage of 150,000 km, whichever comes first,” noted the press service of the Russian office of Great Wall.
The Tank 500 Hi-Charge is based on the modern Hi4-T architecture – the concern’s own development of an innovative hybrid powertrain for SUVs Great Wall Motor. It combines a powerful petrol engine, a highly efficient electric motor and intelligent all-wheel drive.

The electric motor provides instant response and high traction from low revs, which improves dynamics and controllability. The hybrid scheme reduces fuel consumption in comparison with cars with internal combustion engines and the load on the braking system. The lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 37.1 kW h is located under the rear row of seats and the luggage compartment, reliably protected and adapted to work in difficult climatic conditions. The electric range is up to 115 kilometers.
Intelligent all-wheel drive Torque-on-Demand, locking of all differentials and downshifting allow you to confidently overcome even difficult off-road sections on the Tank 500 Hi-Charge, the manufacturer emphasizes.
The appearance of the Hi-Charge package combines the recognizable style of the Tank 500 with new technological elements that increase the practicality of the model. The massive radiator grille, adaptive LED headlights, 19-inch alloy wheels and roof rails create a functional image.
Electric side steps make it easier to get in, and the spare wheel on the tailgate emphasizes the off-road character. The design of the car allows it to overcome fords up to 800 mm deep, the approach angle is 29.5 °, the departure angle is 24 °. The vehicle is prepared for installation of a towing hitch and can tow up to 2.5 tons.
Regenerative braking technology reduces the load on the brakes, thereby increasing their service life, and the external power supply function (up to 3.3 kW) makes the vehicle an additional power source. There are four body color options to choose from: black bogdo (black), snow iremel (white), silver sikhote (silver) and gold ruskeala (gold).
The interior of the Tank 500 Hi-Charge combines premium materials and modern technologies. The seats in the cabin are finished with high-quality materials and Nappa leather and are equipped with massage and ventilation. Double glazing with noise insulation creates an atmosphere of comfort and silence. For passengers of the second row, there is a separate climate control zone, electric side curtains and a touch screen control.

It was previously reported that the Great Wall concern will “rename” its brands in Russia, adding the letters GWM to their names. This is dictated by the company's global strategy aimed at consolidating global resources to create "unified high-quality products and excellent user experience."
