Preparations for the official start of sales of the “Chinese UAZ” from BAW have begun in the Russian Federation
The Chinese company Beijing Automobile Works (BAW) announced its official entry into the Russian market in the third quarter of 2025. The brand’s debut in Russia will be the frame SUV BAW 212 and the practical minivan BAW MPV.

Both models are currently in the final stage of certification to obtain Vehicle Type Approval (VTA). As the 110km portal reports with reference to the manufacturer’s press service, they have already been adapted to Russian conditions and are aimed at segments that are not the most “saturated” in terms of product range, where demand is still high.

The most interesting for Russians will obviously be the BAW 212 SUV with the nickname “Chinese UAZ”. This is the successor of the legendary Soviet-Chinese military SUV BJ212, which is today positioned by the “Chinese” as a modern, technological and at the same time very durable vehicle. Soviet engineers took part in the development of its predecessor, and in terms of design it resembled the legendary GAZ-69 and UAZ-469.
With a body length of 4705 mm and a wheelbase of 2860 mm, the car boasts a frame structure, rigid axles, spring suspension and an impressive ground clearance of 235 mm. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo engine with a capacity of 238 hp. and 410 Nm of torque, working in combination with a classic eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive of the Part-Time type, like modern UAZs.
