History has never seen anything like this: the first Hongqi car with a solid-state traction battery was presented
The Chinese premium brand Hongqi presented its first prototype of an electric car with a new generation solid-state traction battery. The carrier of the revolutionary technology is the serial mid-size electric crossover Tiangong 06, which serves as a test platform.
- A fundamentally new level of safety – the absence of a flammable liquid electrolyte virtually eliminates the risk of thermal runaway and fire.

So, if we describe the advantages of this development using a specific example – the Tiangong 06 electric crossover, then in its standard version with a lithium-ion battery it can travel up to 780 kilometers on a single charge, and in the new version with a solid-state battery, the range increases to more than 1,000 kilometers.

The successful integration of the battery into the car marks the transition from testing individual cells to a comprehensive assessment: now specialists will check the stability of its operation under load, the effectiveness of the insulation and protection systems, as well as safety in real-world driving scenarios. The Tiangong 06 crossover, which has become a test platform for the solid-state battery project, acts as “technological bridge” between the laboratory stage and its future small-scale production. The first production cars with such batteries could hit the market as early as 2027, but initially they will be sold only as part of limited and exclusive editions of flagship models.“This result proves that the company’s engineering team has overcome key barriers in the field of development and systems integration. This step lays a solid foundation for future mass production, sets a new technological trend that will determine the future of the global automotive industry and confirms Hongqi’s leading role in the creation of the next generation of electric vehicles,” Hongqi’s press service told Auto News of the Day.
Hongqi previously completed the assembly of the first prototype of a power electric drive with a high-strength magnesium housing, developed in-house. Brand representatives call this development a “key breakthrough in the field of lightweight design of cars” – it opens the way to the mass use of magnesium alloys in key components of electric cars.
