AvtoVAZ has never produced such cars: a revolutionary new “Lada” was spotted in Moscow
Road tests of the new Lada Azimut crossover have begun in Moscow
A fully camouflaged test prototype of the new LADA Azimut crossover was spotted in Moscow, which may undergo road tests in the capital. Photos of the car parked next to the LADA Iskra SW Cross station wagon were published by RCI News.

The spotted specimen is remarkable, first of all, All in all, in that it is presented in the basic or, at least, mid-range configuration. In the pictures, this is indicated by 17-inch wheels, a roof without panoramic glazing and a sunroof, a six-speed manual transmission selector, and fabric seat trim with a herringbone pattern. Prototypes in more “rich” versions had seats trimmed with perforated leather.
Plus, the car spotted in Moscow does not have a central armrest, and the plastic has a smooth texture. Most likely, this is the so-called industrial sample, assembled using “bypass” technologies – the production car will have a textured one.
Overall, the equipment is rich. The photos show that even this LADA Azimut has a leather multifunctional steering wheel, a digital instrument panel, a multimedia system with a 10-inch touchscreen tablet, climate control, an electronic parking brake with the AutoHold function, a drive mode selector washer and two cup holders on the center console, covered with a decorative curtain.
Among other things, the basic configuration of the “Azimut” by default includes ABS and ESP systems, disc brakes all around, front airbags, LED headlights and taillights, keyless entry with a push-button engine start function and rear parking sensors. In expensive versions, side airbags are also added to this list.

Under the hood of the crossover caught on spy camera, judging by the six-speed manual selector, there is a 1.6-liter engine with 120 hp. In the top versions, the model will be equipped with a more powerful 132-horsepower 1.8-liter engine, working in tandem with a continuously variable transmission WLY of Chinese manufacture. The drive is front-wheel drive, regardless of the power unit.
As a reminder, work on the LADA Azimut was carried out over three years by Russian specialists: from the creation of the concept, layout and design to the design, production and adjustment of all systems, functions and driving characteristics. Its length, width, and height are 4416, 1838, and 1607 mm, respectively, meaning it will compete on the market with the Haval Jolion, Belgee X50, Tenet T4, and other similar models. A truly unique option of the newest SUV will be electric heated side windows. As AvtoVAZ’s press service told Avtonovosti Dnya, they will be heated by filaments, similar to the heated windshield, rear window, and side mirrors. The heating can be turned on and off at the touch of a button.

Serial production of LADA Azimut on the first line of the main plant in Togliatti is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2026. A more precise timeframe is still unknown. By early February, AvtoVAZ had already welded 217 bodies of the future model in test mode.
Earlier, an AvtoVAZ representative confirmed to Avtonovosti Dnya that the LADA Azimut will have a number of advantages over its Chinese competitors. They concern, among other things, design, equipment and adaptation to Russian operating conditions.
