BMW M2 Electric: Reality is getting closer
BMW is developing an electric version of its iconic M2, which will be a significant step towards the electrification of the M model range. The project, launched in 2018, has resulted in the creation of a prototype equipped with four independent electric motors, each dedicated to one wheel, providing a total power output promising exceptional performance.
This four-motor configuration ensures precise control of traction and vehicle dynamics thanks to an advanced torque vectoring system that optimally distributes torque to each wheel. This ensures a highly responsive and flexible driving experience, while maintaining the sporty driving style typical of M models.
The prototype, nicknamed the “E-Beast”, was used as a test bed for developing technologies that could be implemented in future high-performance electric BMW models. According to Carsten Wolf, Head of Vehicle Development BMW M, the new electric drive system promises performance that defies the imagination.
Despite the lack of a combustion engine, the electric M2 retains characteristic features such as carbon-ceramic brakes and a reinforced chassis, ensuring safety and stability even at high speeds. Furthermore, the introduction of an electric all-wheel drive system is a first for the traditionally rear-wheel drive M2 series.
While BMW has not yet officially confirmed the launch date of the electric M2, recent statements and technological developments suggest that the production version could hit the market by 2030. This model will respond to the growing demands for sustainability in the automotive sector without sacrificing the performance that enthusiasts expect from the M line.
