SEAT expands its range for new drivers with new models and engines
With the entry into force of Law no. 177 of 25 November 2024, amending the Highway Traffic Regulations, new drivers in Italy can now drive vehicles with a maximum power of 105 kW (approximately 143 hp), provided that the power-to-weight ratio does not exceed 75 kW per tonne.
In response to this regulation change, SEAT has expanded its offer for new drivers by introducing several models with suitable engines. Among them, the SEAT Ibiza, now available with the new 1.0 MPI engine with 80 hp, in addition to the 1.0 TSI versions with 95 hp and 115 hp. The SEAT Arona is also equipped with the same engines, while the SEAT Leon and Leon Sportstourer are available with 1.5 TSI, 1.5 Hybrid, and 2.0 TDI engines producing 116 hp. Finally, the SEAT Ateca is available with a 1.0 TSI engine producing 115 hp.
This strategy aims to strengthen the connection between SEAT and a younger audience by offering a diverse model range: from city cars to compact SUVs, sedans, and estates, accessible to new drivers. In particular, the SEAT Ibiza received the Reference trim level, which includes features such as an 8.25-inch media system, an 8-inch SEAT Virtual Cockpit, Eco LED headlights, Front & Lane Assist, and manual climate control. This trim level is available exclusively with the new 1.0 MPI 80hp engine, priced from €18,800.
With these new models, SEAT aims to increase its market share in Italy, which currently stands at less than 1%, with around 10,000 vehicles expected to be registered by 2024, and to compete with brands such as Fiat, which dominate the new driver segment.
Furthermore, expanding the new driver range represents an opportunity for SEAT to strengthen its presence on the Italian market, offering models that combine efficiency, performance and advanced technology to meet the needs of young drivers.
