The SSC Tuatara hypercar has officially become the fastest production car in history. The speed record was set in the Nevada desert near Las Vegas. The car was able to accelerate to 533 km/h. This is the average of two attempts. The car was accelerated to this speed on a closed section of highway. Professional race car driver Oliver Webb was behind the wheel of the hypercar. However, the driver stated that a speed of 533 km/h is not the limit for the SSC Tuatara.

A crosswind and less than ideal road surface prevented the car from showing its full power. As a reminder, the previous record belonged to the Bugatti Chiron hypercar. Last year, the car accelerated to a speed of 490.48 km/h. Now the speed record for production cars belongs to the SSC Tuatara hypercar, which was created by the American company Shelby Super Cars. The car is equipped with a 5.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing 1,750 horsepower. The engine runs on E85 fuel, a blend of 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. The SSC Tuatara hypercar starts at $1.63 million. Only 100 SSC Tuatara’s will be built.
