Dealers named reasons for threefold difference in prices for cars in China and Russia

The head of the Russian Automobile Dealers Association (ROAD) Alexey Podshchekoldin told URA.RU in an interview that the final price of a Chinese car in Russia is influenced by several factors.

“If the initial cost of a car from China is 900 thousand rubles, then by the time of sale in Russia it can increase to 2.6 million rubles. Government regulation is added to the base price – 40%, delivery to the Russian Federation – 14%, as well as the distributor’s margin – 6% and the dealer’s – 5%,” Podshchekoldin explained.

As a result, the price of a new Chinese car when imported to Russia increases almost threefold – by 2.8. It was previously reported that in February 2025, the average price of a new car in the country reached 2.98 million rubles. Among the most popular brands at the end of winter, Lada was in the lead – its share was 22.7%. Next came Chinese brands: Haval (10%), Chery (8.5%), Geely (5.4%) and Changan. Over the year, Russians’ demand for new cars has grown by 24.7%, and the range of offers has increased by 45.5%.
