The Telegram team has released an important update for Android—and it’s already generating heated discussion in the IT community. Version 12.6.4 fixes an issue that allowed app traffic to be easily detected and blocked.
This vulnerability concerns a vulnerability in the MTProto protocol. Previously, it allowed traffic analysis systems (DPI) to more quickly detect Telegram use. Now, after the update, the connection has become much less noticeable—meaning that bypassing restrictions works more reliably.
Interestingly, the issue has been unsolved for a long time. According to Habr and third-party developers, the error in the ClientHello component remained unaddressed for several months. A fix was only released after independent enthusiasts proposed a ready-made solution.
The update is already being linked to recent statements by Pavel Durov. On April 4, he emphasized that the messenger would adapt to new conditions and make its traffic as elusive as possible.
In addition, a new security warning appeared in the application. Now accounts using unofficial clients are marked with special icons – this is a signal of potentially less secure communication.
A similar update for iOS is expected to be released soon.
