Minsk has begun testing a new traffic light signal to improve road safety, the State Traffic Inspectorate reported.

In an experimental mode, at a number of regulated intersections, the yellow traffic light signal is supplemented by a white-moon indicator. It indicates the presence of a conflict – an intersection of the driver’s direction of travel with pedestrians, cyclists, cars or trams.

The flashing signal reminds drivers to give way to pedestrians and vehicles when turning left or right. When the signal turns off, a red light is turned on for the direction you need to yield.

Minsk State Traffic Inspectorate reported that traffic lights with new sections have already been installed at the intersection of Sharangovich and Yakubovsky Streets, Dzerzhinsky Avenue and Gursky Street, as well as Nezavisimosti Avenue and Ostroshitskaya Street.
