Topspeed has published a list of Toyota models with a mileage of over 400 thousand kilometers, arranging them in ascending order of mileage – from least to greatest. This rating clearly demonstrates that Japanese cars can serve for decades with proper maintenance.
The list opens with an iconic minivan – 2004 Toyota Sienna , whose mileage has exceeded 552 thousand kilometers. This is the first car of the second generation of the model, which has become popular among family drivers. Under the hood is a reliable 3.3-liter V6 3MZ-FE , known for its durability and smooth operation even under heavy loads.
Next is the compact 2001 Toyota Echo with a mileage of 605 thousand kilometers. Despite the modest 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder 1NZ-FE engine , the power of which barely exceeds 100 hp, the engine has proven itself to be extremely reliable, unpretentious in maintenance and economical.
Another indicator of the legendary Japanese quality is the 1997 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with a mileage of 619 thousand kilometers. Under the hood is a 2.7-liter inline 4-cylinder 3RZ-FE , which, thanks to its simple and proven design, is capable of withstanding enormous loads and decades of operation.
The next record holder is the Toyota Sequoia SUV, whose mileage reached 627 thousand kilometers. This is 8.1 times longer than the average service life of a regular SUV. The secret to its durability lies in the legendary V8, which were installed on the first two generations of the Sequoia, ensuring reliability even under intensive use.
No less impressive is the 2009 Toyota Prius with a mileage of 658 thousand kilometers. Hybrids are often considered “disposable”, but this Prius defies the stereotype. The heart of the car is the 1.5-liter inline 4-cylinder 1NZ-FXE, one of the most economical and durable Toyota engines, and the secret to a long service life lies in competent hybrid engineering.
Another “eternal” representative is the 1998 Toyota Corolla with a mileage of 660 thousand kilometers. It features a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder 1ZZ-FE engine , which has become a legend for its simplicity, reliability, and long service life.
The 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with 430,000 miles on the clock confirms that the 3RZ-FE series is a true long-liver. Despite its age, the engine continues to run smoothly, and the Tacoma itself remains a workhorse for decades.
Next in the ranking is the tenth-generation 2011 Toyota Corolla with 478,000 miles on the clock. This model has earned a reputation as one of the most reliable sedans for everyday use. Reaching nearly half a million miles proves that Toyota’s durability is no accident, but the result of quality engineering.
The rating also included the ninth-generation Toyota Corolla with a mileage of more than 830,000 kilometers. The base version was equipped with the proven 1.8-liter 1ZZ-FE, but the real gem was the 2005 XRS version with the 1.8-liter 2ZZ-GE, a high-revving engine with a power of about 190 hp, demonstrating reliability even in sports driving.
At the top of the rating is the 1999 Toyota 4Runner SUV with a record mileage of 966,000 kilometers. The base version was equipped with the 2.7-liter 4-cylinder 3RZ-FE, familiar from the Tacoma, and a more powerful configuration offered the 3.4-liter V6 5VZ-FE. Both engines are famous for being truly long-livers, capable of operating for decades without major repairs.
The Topspeed list clearly shows that with proper care and maintenance, Toyota can serve an incredibly long time, and the reliability of the 3RZ-FE, 1ZZ-FE, 1NZ-FE and V8 series engines has long been a legend in the automotive world.
