The Russian market may face a complete shortage of all-wheel drive Chinese-made Volkswagen vehicles due to licensing difficulties. According to Nikolai Ivanov, Director of New Car Sales at Rolf, current inventory will last approximately one month if new deliveries do not resume.
The situation is exacerbated by reports of the possible closure of the Volkswagen plant in China, which is being actively discussed in professional circles. Ivanov emphasized that even if production continues, this will not resolve the issue with the missing license, which is currently being negotiated.
The current vehicles available in Russia arrived through the early parallel import scheme and represent leftovers from dealer warehouses. The cessation of new deliveries, according to Ivanov, will effectively deprive the Russian market of all-wheel drive Volkswagen models, which traditionally enjoy significant demand among domestic buyers.
“Based on the current level of demand, our reserves are calculated for about a month,” Nikolai Ivanov added in a conversation with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
