The updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be the first to receive heated seat belts.
Mercedes-Benz is preparing to present the updated version of the flagship S-Class on January 29. The manufacturer states that about 2,700 parts and components have been changed in the car.
One of the main innovations will be the first-ever heated seat belt function, developed by ZF.
In general, the German automaker will make more changes to the sedan than usual in the middle of a model’s life cycle. “Yes, this is not an ordinary facelift,” noted CEO Ola Källenius.
Interestingly, after the debut of the 2027 S-Class, the main focus of the media and car enthusiasts will likely be on the new seat belts, which Mercedes claims provide drivers with a “warm embrace.”
This is a logical step: Mercedes has previously equipped the sedan with heated seats, steering wheel and armrests. As demonstrated on the concept version, the heating elements of the belts are capable of raising the temperature from 10 °C to body temperature in just 4 minutes.
Mercedes emphasizes that the new feature not only increases comfort, but also improves safety. Heated belts can encourage drivers to buckle up more often and tighten them tighter against the body. This is especially useful in winter, when the tight fit of the belt encourages you to remove bulky jackets, meaning the belt will work most effectively in the event of an accident.
It is not yet known whether heated belts will be standard equipment for the new S-Class. However, experts do not rule out that this technology will eventually be adapted for other Mercedes models, including electric cars.
