Start in 2026: preparations are underway for the production of the new Lada Azimut crossover

The date for the start of mass production of AvtoVAZ’s most modern and, in many ways, revolutionary model — the LADA Azimut crossover — has been set. It will go into production in the third quarter of 2026. This was announced by the Governor of the Samara Region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, summing up the results of the region’s development in 2025.

«Despite the tense situation in the automotive market, our auto giant continues industrial production of new models. On April 19, AvtoVAZ began industrial production of the LADA Iskra family. The LADA Azimut model was presented at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. “The production of this model is planned to begin in the third quarter of 2026,” said Vyacheslav Fedorishchev.

The head of the region separately emphasized the fact that, despite all the difficulties, the company’s workforce was preserved. According to him,

“Temporary jobs were provided to 25 thousand employees of AvtoVAZ and related enterprises, who were under threat of dismissal in connection with the introduction of a four-day work week,” noted Vyacheslav Fedorishchev.

As a reminder, at the beginning of November AvtoVAZ announced the start of a program of road tests of the LADA Azimut crossover. The company clarified that a test track at the Tolyatti plant is being used to tune and test individual vehicle characteristics, while the main set of validations will be conducted at the VAZ test site in Sosnovka.

The design of the “Azimut” represents a new interpretation of the signature “X-design”, inherited by AvtoVAZ from the former chief designer Steve Mattin and familiar from other LADA models. The car’s ground clearance is stated at 208 millimeters, and the wheel rims – at least in the top configuration, have a diameter of 18 inches.

In terms of size, the Azimut will be comparable to the Haval Jolion, Chery Tiggo 4 and Belgee X50 assembled in Belarus. Its dimensions were previously announced: the length, width and height will be 4416, 1838 and 1607 mm respectively, and the ground clearance will be 208 mm.

Интерьер LADA Azimut The engine range of the model will include two naturally aspirated engines of AvtoVAZ’s own design, which with a volume of 1.6 and 1.8 liters will produce 120 hp and 132 hp respectively, and a six-speed manual and a CVT will be paired with them. Over time, these engines will be joined by a new 150-horsepower turbocharged engine, aggregated with a classic automatic.
