Cheaper than the “Chinese”: AvtoVAZ presented its version of a taxi based on the flagship sedan Lada Aura
“AvtoVAZ presented the Lada Aura sedan in a taxi version at the Transport of Russia forum in Moscow. A special modification was shown at the Ministry of Transport stand and is aimed at meeting future requirements for taxi localization from March 1, 2026.
As reported by the company, Lada Aura received increased space for rear passengers: the distance from The distance from the front seats to the rear is 1060 mm, which is considered the best in its class. The sedan is adapted to Russian conditions – it is equipped with heated seats, a steering wheel, a windshield, and fuel injectors, and has a ground clearance of 176 mm. Under the hood is a 1.8-liter EVO engine producing 122 hp, paired with an automatic transmission (CVT).AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov emphasized that the entire Lada model range is included in the list of recommended localized cars for taxis. According to him, a budget version of the Aura has also been prepared for the market, and the brand’s cars themselves are cheaper than Chinese counterparts in both price and maintenance costs.
“We also don’t understand the desire of certain groups who are now trying to amend the taxi law regarding quotas for the self-employed. The law already gives them deferments: any cars licensed before March 2026 can be used for another five years, and in a number of regions, deferments are provided until 2028-2030. “The law must first be put into effect, and then we will carefully calculate the economics of taxi transportation and understand whether it requires additional revisions,” Maxim Sokolov commented on the initiatives to change the law on taxis.
According to the head of the company, the new procedure should not lead to an increase in the cost of trips, since Lada cars are positioned as an affordable solution for the transportation market.
