The Polish government is preparing to open two more road border crossings with Belarus. This may happen as early as Monday, November 17. The corresponding bill was prepared on the initiative of the Ministry of the Interior and the Polish administration, according to media reports.

The border crossings “Bobrovniki” (“Berestovitsa” on the Belarusian side) and “Kuznica Belostocka” (“Bruzgi”) are expected to open. As a reminder, at the end of October, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced their possible opening.

According to the Polish News Agency (PAP), the first border crossing to open is “Bobrovniki”. However, restrictions will be imposed on freight transport: only for vehicles registered in member states of the European Union, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area and the Swiss Confederation. Passenger transport, including bus transport, will be permitted.

The second border crossing, “Kuznica Białostocka”, will be opened with restrictions on passenger traffic, with the exception of bus traffic.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed today that Poland does indeed intend to open two more road crossing points on the border with Belarus. But he did not name the exact date, saying only that it would happen “at the beginning of next week.”

— This opening of border crossings is due to the very specific interests of the local population, businesses and residents, — the wp.pl portal quotes him as saying.

Let us recall that the Kuznica Belostocka (Bruzgi) border crossing was closed at the initiative of the Polish authorities in November 2021, and the Bobrovniki (Berestovitsa) border crossing since February 2023. Currently, only the Brest – Terespol border crossing is open for crossing the border by car between Belarus and Poland.

And this is the current situation in front of the only Polish checkpoint open for passenger transport. There are 2,950 cars and 75 buses in line this morning, the State Border Committee reports. They noted that the adjoining side accepted 30% of the norm in vehicles into its territory in the past 24 hours.

— 360 trucks are waiting to enter Poland in front of the Polish border crossing “Kukuryki” (“Kozlovichi”). Over the past 24 hours, the adjoining side accepted 58% of the norm in heavy trucks into its territory, – added the SBC. — Control services at the Latvian border crossing point “Paternieki” (“Grigorovshchina”) accepted 42% of heavy trucks into their territory. There are 120 trucks waiting to enter Latvia.

The checkpoints on the border with Lithuania, as a reminder, are effectively closed.
