Audi A3: plug-in hybrid test with 140 km range
The Audi A3 Sportback has been updated with a plug-in hybrid variant, which promises an electric range of up to 140 km thanks to a more powerful battery and an improved powertrain.
At the heart of this innovation is a 26 kWh battery (useful output around 20 kWh), which powers a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. It is combined with a 1.5 TFSI petrol engine, available in two variants:
- 40 TFSI e: Total output of 204 hp, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds and a top speed of 225 km/h.
- 45 TFSI e: Total output of 272 hp, acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 237 km/h.
Both versions have a top speed of 140 km/h (87 mph) in electric mode.
The battery can be charged in around two and a half hours using an AC power source of up to 11 kW.
Visually, the A3 Sportback retains the elegant and sporty lines typical of the brand, with updates including a more pronounced Singleframe grille and configurable matrix LED headlights.
Inside, advanced technology includes a 10.1-inch infotainment system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a configurable digital instrument cluster.
The new Audi A3 plug-in hybrid represents a significant step towards more sustainable mobility, combining strong performance with an all-electric range sufficient for most daily journeys without emissions.
