The car was created for the 25th anniversary of the Impreza WRC rally debut. At the same time, modern technologies have made the car more powerful and easier to control. In spirit, the modern reincarnation is close to the Subaru Impreza WRC rally model.
The original Impreza 22B STI was released in the amount of 424 units and three prototypes. They were owned by racing drivers Colin McRae, Nicky Grist and David Lapworth. 400 original models were sold in Japan. Another 24 were sold in Australia and the UK. The original model now sells for up to $300,000.
