A resident of Soligorsk bought a Peugeot. He was satisfied with the condition of the car, and after paying, the buyer and seller went their separate ways.
However, problems began when the man tried to register the car with the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate. The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate officer suspected that the VIN number might be fake. An examination was ordered. The investigation established that someone had changed the vehicle identification number.
— The experts determined that part of the vehicle’s license plate had been removed and that part of another license plate had been attached in its place using welding and then masking the welds. The experts also concluded that the vehicle’s factory plate, which contained the VIN number and other information about the car, had been removed. A plate with different information had been attached in its place, not at the manufacturer’s plant. During the forensic examination, specialists established the original VIN number of the Peugeot, — the State Committee for Forensic Examinations reported.
The Soligorsk resident admitted: he could not even imagine that the VIN number would be fake. The police are currently conducting an investigation.
