There are not many decent premium cars officially sold on the Russian market now. One of them can safely be called the Tank 500 SUV – brutal, comfortable and attractive.
In Russia, respectable cars have always been loved, the kind that make people turn their heads. Two years ago, famous Western brands left the Russian market and abandoned their customers. This applies to both the mass and premium segments. Chinese manufacturers entered the arena. At the same time, in terms of quality of performance, many modern Chinese are not inferior to their European, Japanese and American counterparts, but are sold at more attractive prices. The ideal combination of premium quality, price and equipment is offered by the Tank 500 SUV.
Exterior
Brutal appearance, abundance of chrome and classic frame construction: the Chinese Tank 500 seriously claims to occupy the empty niche of large solid SUVs on the Russian market. The design of the Tank 500 attracts the attention of others with a powerful radiator grille with a huge dominant logo, a complex design of LED headlights and vertically arranged taillights. Externally, the Tank 500 can easily be confused with famous SUVs of Japanese or American brands. The car looks impressive, as well as expensive and prestigious.
This car became a continuation of the line, started by the Tank 300 model. With a wheelbase increased by 100 mm, equal to 2850 mm, the new product provides more space in the cabin, offering options for 5 or 7 passenger seats. The length is 4878 mm (5070 with a spare wheel on the fifth door), width – 1934, height – 1905, ground clearance – 224, fording depth – 800 mm, approach and departure angles – 29.6 and 24 degrees.
The exterior of the Tank 500 turned out to be restrained and at the same time classic. This design will be relevant in a few years. This is a long-lasting classic.
Interior
The Tank 500’s interior is in no way inferior to its classmates. It features only high-quality materials and a pleasant design. The Tank 500’s interior is simply luxurious. It features a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and a 14.6-inch tablet-like display of the infotainment system on the center console.
The top-end Tank 500 model boasts a projection display and genuine leather upholstery, including two-tone variations, an interior camera that determines the driver’s level of fatigue and concentration by the driver’s face. It is nice that with all the screen abundance, the physical buttons on the central panel are not forgotten, their design and texture are given enough attention, as well as the stylish analog clock in the center of the dashboard.
In premium trim levels, options such as a wireless charger, automatically retractable footrests, a ventilation and heating system for the rear seats, as well as an entertainment system for rear passengers are available. The five-seater version offers a spacious interior, especially in the legroom for second-row passengers. In the seven-seater configuration, due to the additional row of seats, the space is slightly reduced, but even there the rear seats are comfortable for adults. In addition, the second row of seats in the 7-seater version can be easily moved, creating additional space for luggage or providing more comfort for passengers. The Tank 500 interior meets any, even the most sophisticated, requirements.
All details are tactilely pleasant thanks to the nappa leather and Alcantara trim. The panoramic roof fills the interior with light and visually increases the space. Multi-zone climate control can be controlled both from the driver’s seat and via a separate touch display in the second row. The driver’s seat also has a massage function. The electric drives of the steering column and seats are supplemented by a memory function to remember the preferences of several drivers. When the ignition is turned off, the electric drive moves the driver’s seat back and raises the steering wheel, freeing up space. The front headrests are adjustable not only in height, but also in reach.
The backrests of the second row seats are adjustable in tilt, there is a transformable armrest and automatic folding of the third row seats, and in the five-seater configuration, a flat floor is formed in the trunk.
On the move
We press the start-stop button and hear the thoroughbred purr of the engine. Under the hood, there is a three-liter gasoline V6, which produces 354 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system work together with the engine. The front suspension is independent, spring, the rear suspension is a solid axle.
There are locks for the interwheel and interaxle differentials, there is a downshift. In terms of electronic safety and driver assistance systems, the Tank 500 offers a number of modern functions. Adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking and an intelligent parking system with a panoramic view provide comfort and safety on the road. In addition, the car can automatically exit narrow parking spaces, following a previously saved trajectory. On the highway, the Tank 500 SUV goes leisurely, but there is no yaw or swaying on asphalt waves. In such a car you can drive more than one hundred kilometers without fatigue for the driver and his passengers.
On rough terrain, the Tank 500 feels like a fish in water. Of course, because this is one of the few frame SUVs that have survived in nature against the backdrop of the dominance of crossovers that only pretend to be jeeps. With the Tank, everything is honest and real. Frame SUVs are much more reliable, since all loads, especially off-road, are perceived primarily by a powerful frame.
Also, a frame SUV has better noise and vibration insulation, since the body is not load-bearing, but is connected to the frame by elastic joints and rubber shock absorbers. The frame is better ventilated, it has fewer hidden cavities, so frame cars are less susceptible to corrosion. For the Russian version of the Tank 500, additional anti-corrosion treatment is carried out by spraying a wax-based composition. So, Tank 500 will please its owner not only with reliability, but also with good controllability on the highway and off-road.
